Jerash, a city of the Decapolis, is today, with Petra, one of the most important archeological site in Jordan.

The city was founded by the Greeks and then, the Romans came to power. After the Arab's conquest, the city will be deserted. In the begining of the 19th century, J.L. Burckhardt (who discovered Petra) will discover this site. At the end of the same century, Circassians (coming from the Caucasus) will be installed there.
