The Krak des Chevaliers is a typical example of Crusader castle in Syria. Others strongholds are more impressives but the fortifications of the Krak are the most complex. This fortress was first used by the Emir of Homs. They were there Kurdish soldiers (the origin of the name). The first to be there were the... Egyptians during their ware against the Hittites.

The Krak was never taken.
